Frequently Asked Questions
How do I place an ad in the paper?
The easiest way to do this would be to contact our Advertising Department through e-mail at: displayads@broadsideonline.com or call (703) 993-2942 with all inquiries.
How do I write a letter to the editor?
Broadside encourages op-eds and letters to the editor from all readers. Letters to the editor and opinion editorials may be sent by e-mail to opinion@broadsideonline.com, postal mail, or fax. Opinion editorials must be signed by an author, not an organization.
All letters to the editor must include the author’s name, major (if any), or George Mason University affiliation including academic year (if any).
All letters to the editor must be submitted by Friday before 5 p.m. to be considered for that Monday’s weekly edition.
Letters may not exceed 300 words; opinion submissions may not exceed 800 words.
Note: Broadside reserves the right to edit submissions for length or content with or without the consultation of the author.
How can I get my event covered in the paper?
Budgets are sent out and assigned for the entire week on Sundays, so if you have an event that is newsworthy, or related to Mason, the best thing to do is let us know a week in advance. Call, e-mail, or send a fax with the “who, what, where, when, and why,” and we will do our best to cover the events we deem newsworthy.
How do I publicize my event?
Keep in mind the difference between advertising and coverage. News stories are not publicity tools.
If you want to publicize an event in advance, contact our Advertising Department at (703) 993-2942. We also post a calendar of events in the newspaper on a daily basis, and you can e-mail news@broadsideonline.com with the “who, what, where, when.”
Requests for listings must be received by Friday of the week prior to the event's occurrence.
Can I reprint your stories, photos, etc.?
All stories, photos etc. produced by Broadside are property of Broadside. No information may be republished without the expressed written consent of the editor Broadside.
For any other questions, please feel free to e-mail the editor-in-chief at: eic@broadsideonline.com or the managing editor at: editorialme@broadsideonline.com.
